Urban Education Policy Masters Program, Brown University
AISR collaborates with the education department at Brown University to offer the Urban Education master’s degree program. Michelle Renée and Warren Simmons co-teach the Urban Systems and Structures class; Mike Grady and Ellen Foley co-teach the Research Design and Methods class as well as a course on grant writing. Both the UEP courses and AISR program work have been enriched by significant interconnections between the two. AISR recently hired UEP alumna Elsa Duré as a research associate and has set up a number of internships for UEP students through our extensive ties with other organizations involved in school reform.
AISR executive director Warren Simmons answers the question, "Since Brown University's master's program in Urban Education Poicy was launched five years ago, has your curriculum or approach changed?"
Havala Hanson is a researcher at the Strategic Data Project at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a 2010 graduate of Brown University’s Urban Education Policy Program. She describes how the UEP program prepared her for her work.
