New Day for Learning
AISR provides technical assistance to support the local district redesign efforts of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation’s New Day for Learning (NDL) initiative. The initiative’s goal is the redesign of school- and community-based learning resources so that all children receive the supports needed to pursue postsecondary education and training and to become active members of a society that is increasingly global. Typically in these efforts, AISR staff have worked as part of a larger capacity-building team that often comprises the funder; other technical assistance, documentation, communication, and evaluation partners; and multiple partners within the sites themselves.
AISR supports the Providence NDL team’s efforts to foster intentional collaboration across local, state, and national sectors to maximize resources and to develop pre-K through postsecondary learning pathways by supporting Mayor Angel Taveras’s Children and Youth Cabinet. AISR supports the NDL team’s efforts to advance and document the Providence School Department’s (PSD) and the Providence After School Alliance’s (PASA) activities aimed at raising middle school students’ achievement in literacy and mathematics, while also heightening their motivation, engagement, and cognitive ability (e.g., creativity, problem-solving, planning, and communication skills).
AISR also helps the Providence site develop plans that strengthen the coordination among national and local documentation, communication, and evaluation efforts, with an eye toward mining their implications for federal education policy; and clarify accomplishments and challenges that might inform federal and state policy on extending learning and inform the Foundation’s future grant-making priorities.
