Executive Director Warren Simmons delivered the keynote address at the “Advancing Equity: Removing Road Blocks to Achieving High Academic Standards Symposium” on Nov. 5 at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J.
The symposium focused on the nation’s investment in content and resource standards needed to achieve educational excellence for all students regardless of social class, locale, race and gender. It concentrated on identifying actions and strategies needed for helping historically under-served communities and students achieve and succeed in the 21st century, and sought clarity from participants concerning meaningful education reforms, policies and practices to improve the nation’s public schools — particularly those serving our most vulnerable communities and students.
The conference reflected the collaboration of the Council of Opportunity in Education (COE), the Education Law Center (ELC), Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the National Urban League (NUL).
